My Artistic Path

Elyse, The Angel

Portrait artists through history have followed similar steps in their formal training. In addition to formal classroom studies, a portrait artist will find a mentor and study with this master artist for several years to develop the skills necessary to paint a likeness. After this, the artist will devote many years to constant painting to find their own "voice" or artistic style to be able to produce portraits that are works of art on their own merit.

I began my studies at the School of the Art Institute, and the School of Representational Art in Chicago. I then studied for over five years with master portrait artist Margaret Carter Baumgaertner in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Since that time, I have painted by my estimation nearly 300 portraits in my quest to develop my artistic credentials. Today, I teach drawing and painting at Mainstreet Art Centre in Lake Zurich, and paint on a daily basis.

Portraiture has been my passion for well over a decade now. I believe that my paintings are the best indication of my training and dedication to art. My happy clients across the country are my most gratifying reward.
